Итак, сам пост в комментариях к которому выкладывается перевод замечаний Минекуры к иллюстрациям из артбука здесь. Перевод athena8.
Итак:

(Q): I'd love to know what she says about the youkai!Hakkai/limiter!Hakkai illustration, please? Thank you!! :)
(A): Lol! That's a great one. Actually, the image of youkai!Hakkai was supposed to be the color illustration for the table of contents page. But she realized it might be a spoiler, so she drew a matching regular Hakkai version instead. On the pencil sketch of the image, she suggests to her editor to make this an extra surprise cover for the book, where readers can discover it when they take off the outer jacket.
For the illustration book, she decided to put them both together in one picture, but then she says it sort of ended up looking a little erotic. XDD
Btw, she refers to Hakkai in youkai form as vine!Hakkai. *grin*

(Q): The Hakkai-Goku with puppies and half-nekkid Gojyo & Sanzo (as they seem to be together there), and the one of Gojyo in the fur hood!
(A): Cool! Glad you got a hold of them. ^___^ Quite lovely things to have!
The first two images you refer to were New Year's cards, and offered as an extra in December '05 Zero Sum. The 53 illustration has two 'hanafuda' (each card representing a month of the year) in the background. The January one is placed in front, and the second is the February "monk" card. She also included a poem for January. It was the Year of the Dog, which explains the puppies in the 89 image. She says she has fun drawing the ikkou in all kinds of combinations. Both are full CG color, with some minor alterations in the background.
The pencil sketch of the 89 image says to put in lots of dogs, and snow crystals. The one for 53 says there should be a 'waka' (Japanese poem) on the first fuda and that the second fuda is the monk card (she seems amused by this, lol).
Gojyo in the fur hood! She says it was Gojyo's turn for a pin-up (as she calls them) but this time it was the last episode of the oasis arc, and she didn't wanna draw him in his usual yakuza-ish mood. Therefore, he turned out looking unusually listless (ennui). She calls him Gojo-tan, btw. *grins* The background she's very pleased with, and it's something that she colored in roughly and then blurred a bit. She was going for a look of a cold, chilled atmosphere.
The pencil sketch for this image notes that there are too few color images of Gojyo. She wanted to color it 'realistically.'

(Q): Oh oh!! Gojyo shattering the glass! What does it say? *__*
(A): This was the cover to January '06 Zero Sum. As Gojyo's turn for a cover came around, she wondered how she should draw him so it seemed very "New Year's," which explains why it is in red and white. She says she finds it's very "Gojyo-like" but ended up not being very "New Year's-like." The character is colored in Copic (that's a brand of markers), and the background is CG colored. The shattered glass part in front was drawn separately and blurred, then added later.

(Q): I'd be eternally grateful if you could translate the image where Tenpou is putting on his uniform. ♥ I was tempted to choose the kotatsu and youkai!Hakkai, but Tenpou is too hot. *g*
(A): Aah, I loove that Tenpou uniform pic. *__*
This was the cover to Zero Sum WARD vol 13. She says Tenpou is a character that doesn't have too much color variety, and since the specification for the cover was for a white background, she didn't want to put him in his usual white outfit...therefore, putting him in his military gear. She also put in some movement. Same as with the Kenren image, there's a color gradation, and she added a blurred effect via CG. She thinks Tenpou looks good in long sleeved undershirts and long underwear (pants), lol.
Ah, about the kotatsu, which was an extra New Year's card included in December 2006 Zero Sum. She says this is one of her favorite ikkou group images, even though "it's like this." And maybe because it's "like this," she had lots of fun drawing it.
The youkai!Hakkai (I'm assuming you mean the one with Jeep on his shoulder?) was also part of that set of New Year's cards for December 2006. It was Year of the Boar, so she chose Hakkai (who is a pig youkai in Journey to the West). She liked that picture because Jeep's wings make Hakkai look a little devilish, lol.
If you meant the youkai!Hakkai pic from earlier, I did translate her comments (see above). =)

(Q): AIEEE! i luff the pencil sketches! and i want to know what the managaka said about ALL the pictures! but if i had to pick one, i would dearly love to know what she said about the cover drawing, which is probably my favourite picture of sanzo now ...
(A): I love that picture too! Unfortunately, all her comments next to that illustration are about Salty Dog in general, and not about the picture. =/

(Q): Well my japanese is not good enough TToTT so I miss alot of things (ah... those kanji) x.x and so
I would like to ask for:
p.18 Gyokumen and Hwan (somebody would ask about this sooner or later ^^)
p.06 Sanzo
p.27 group
p.72 Konzen
p.54-55 Gaiden group
(A): The Gyokumen/Hwan pic was done for Autumn vol. 2 Yurihime, which I understand is a quarterly magazine by Ichijinsha. She says it's a very "reckless" pin-up in a lot of ways. It's Gyokumen and Professor Hwan, for starters. She says, "....it's 'yuri,' I'm telling you." When she was drawing this, she was looking up "tortoise shell knots" online, and was rather alarmed by all the over 18 only sites that came up, lol. What a scary world we live in, she says. XD But she had lots of fun drawing this.
I think the page numbers don't coincide with the pages I have. Could you recheck them with the pages that we posted here, and maybe link me? I appreciate it.
(Q): I wrote the numbers from the comments pages...^^J my mystake
Sanzo sitting with that gorgeous white shirt - page 7
group by te table with sleeping Sanzo - page 28
Konzen with flowers and blue background - page 73
Gaiden group with candles actually pages - 55-56
(A): Of course you did! *headdesk* Sorry, I should've been paying closer attention. XD;;
Sanzo in white shirt - This was an image included in a special calendar (that you had to send away for) for people who got the October '05 Zero Sum issue. She says she drew Sanzo like as though he were doing a photoshoot for a magazine interview. she likes putting in shadows on images that look like they've been shot in a studio, but she worries that it appears like as a manga artist, she was slacking off. For this publication version, she added a pattern to his shirt. Copic colors, and only the background done in CG.
Table w/ sleeping Sanzo (over the kotatsu table), see above.
Konzen with flowers - she says she uses these white clovers often. She really loves these flowers and they appear in Gaiden a lot. She used to make these crowns out of these flowers when she was a child. Not ones so cute like this, but bulkier. She then chides herself for not talking about the drawing, lol. But the pencil sketch of this illustration says, "like Goku got to him," as though Goku threw this crown of flowers over his head just moments ago!
Gaiden with candles - from Zero Sum WARD vol 10. She thought it'd be interesting to do something religious themed, like they were missionaries or something. She loves drawing light and shadows. Unfortunately, the candle that Kenren's holding always disappears into the crease when it's a two page spread. She worried a lot over the over-all color scheme, and added green hues so it wasn't too cold and blue.

(Q): I'd like to hear about the Gaiden set from pp58-61 (the single-character portraits w/ the black backgrounds and the flowers), and Sanzo+bike on p17.
(A): The Gaiden set is something she wanted to do for each character, dark background and one white flower each (except Goku, who gets 3). She wanted to make these into telephone cards and pins, but she hasn't received them yet! I think she's a bit sad about that. Apparently they had forgotten to keep the sample, alas. (In order to make the products, I assume). The pencil sketches for each just note which flowers they are holding.
Konzen holds a 'teppou yuri' (which I originally thought said Tenpou yuri!!), which is an Easter lily. Kenren holds a white chrysanthemum, Goku has white tulips and Tenpou has a calla lily. The Goku sketch just notes that it should be black background, with only the flower that is pure white.
The Sanzo on a bike image was for May '06 Zero Sum, and she was inspired by a particular photograph and thought "I wanna draw this!" But then it was apparently a 5th anniversary edition issue and some people were like, "What's up with that?" a bit angrily. (Not sure why...I think it's gorgeous!) But she personally likes this image a lot. Sky and railing only are colored in CG, the rest is Copic color.
The pencil sketch note to her editor says she's afraid it's gonna be rejected, but she did draw this with spring in mind. Bright blue sky background with maybe streaks of cloud left behind by airplane. (I guess they just went with blue sky, though).

(Q): I am a bit curious about the pic with Hakkai and Sanzo dressed in black together with Hakkai wearing the "Dead End" tie. Would you please elaborate on this one? Sankyuu!
(A): The 38 is from September '06 Zero Sum, and since the last pic was Gojyo and Goku, she thought to use Hakkai and Sanzo this time. She says this pair seems strangely to head toward a more aesthetic look, although it'd be scary actually if they turned out looking carefree. She drew this wondering if it was possible to draw out the guyishness of the characters. ...she thinks this is the most she can do with that, lol.

(Q): And about youkai!Hakkai vs Seiten Taisei, what does Minekura say about it?
Thank you once again for the gorgeous pics!!
(A): Ah...about that. She says she's only JUST noticing that she forgot to draw in Goku's stomach tattoo, and she's a bit disappointed with herself. She remembers that at that time, she was just so thrilled to be drawing youkai Hakkai without his limiters. She doesn't even know why she was holding back revealing his appearance all this time. Characters done in Copic color, background added in CG.

(Q): I'm curious about the one with the ikkou and the Ukoku and Koumyou shadows behind the moon. Annnd the one where they're all sort of piling up on Sanzo (page 10, it was?).
(A): That's the "main visual" for the burial arc, so she chose a very "orthodox" look. She drew Ukoku and Koumyou faces separately and lightened it up quite a bit before adding it to the final piece. However, depending on the publication, they are barely visible, or sometimes too visible. And she found that it was difficult to adjust it. The pencil sketch says they are to appear to fade in from the dark night sky.
Sanzo pile-up - She was going for a "pop" look where you're not sure how they're all tangled up (piled up?). Even so, she did use her pen quite a bit actually and she's afraid the pop look sort of didn't get achieved as much. She thinks the colors came out a bit glum. She really enjoys drawing Hakkai's expression there, a genuine smile. Colors all done in CG.

(Q): And I'd be way interested in the translation of the comments of Ukoku in that chair. Oh Ukoku. ♥
(A):Chair!Ukoku - color image from July '06 Zero Sum. Like the Sanzo with bike one, this was inspired from a photograph. The quote "Who told you?" (as you recall, Sanzo wanted to know who told Hazel about Seiten Taisei) was happening right around this time, so she wanted to portray the creepiness of his presence with just half his face. Character and chair done in Copic color, floor and smoke in CG color.

(Q): I was curious about the two images for the alternate cover of vol.6, with Hazel and Gat on the front and the ikkou on the back looking pissed.
(A): The ikkou on the back are supposed to be the 'main' but when the magazine was printed it was sealed and you couldn't see the image. A lot of people misunderstood, thinking "I'm not buying this cover unless the Sanzo Ikkou are featured." She says that was a tricky thing. Background added for this Salty Dog publication in CG.

(Q): If its not too much trouble, could you tell me what she says about Kenren's Ward cover (pg71)? That picture makes me flail so hard XD
(A): *purrpurr* I love that image!
It's the cover to Zero Sum WARD vol. 11. She thought it looked a bit drab, since Kenren doesn't have a lot of color variation, so on a separate paper she drew the dragon tattoo and added it on later via CG. She also added it to the background, and put in a color gradation so it finished off a more cover-like look. =)
